CAF in accordance with its statutes on Monday announced that the current interim president Constant Selemani Omari will continue to lead the body till next year.
Sports Village Square’s investigation reveals that similar fate may also befall the acting president.
An acting president will no doubt lead the body till 12 March election in Rabat next year.
But more troubles seem to be in the offing as Constant Omari is also under FIFA investigation and had been asked along with the banned Ahmad to stand-aside over the way both handled a television contract for CAF in a way that that appeared to benefit a commercial partner over CAF.
This is the latest ethical concern for a governing body that was subject to direct FIFA oversight as recently as February.
Both Ahmad and Omari have been asked by FIFA to provide details about amendments to a television contract with the marketing company, Lagardere Sports.
It therefore appears that the axe is also dangling over the interim president. The second vice president of CAF, Fouzi Lekzaa of Morocco may be the one to lead the confederation into the next election holding in his country.
It will be recalled that Sports Village Square had weeks ago reported on an impending implosion in CAF Executive Committee. This is beginning to unfold with the adjudicatory chamber of the FIFA independent Ethics Committee declaring banned for five years for having acted in violation of the FIFA Code of ethics.
By the ban, he ceases to be CAF President as well as a FIFA Vice President and cannot take part in any football-related activities (administrative, sports and other) at the national and international levels for a period of five years.
