New wage: Muslim group calls for speedy approval of minimum pension

A group, the Muslim Media Watch, has called for the immediate release of harmonised salary table that would reflect the new Wage Act assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group in a statement issued by its national coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi also called on the commission and agencies concerned with the immediate implementation of the new N30, 000 minimum wage to act fast in order not to jeopardize the effort of the Federal Government on the new wage regime in the country.

The group also urged the federal government to put in place necessary machinery that will tackle the possible inflation that may arise because of the new wage regime.

“The Muslim Media Watch group therefore call on all those that have anything to do with the implementation of the new minimum wage to act immediately so as not to embarrass or jeopardise the federal government over its laudable action on the matter.

“The federal government should also set necessary machinery in motion to tackle possible inflation that may arise over the marginal increase granted.

“Finally, with the new minimum wage decided, the nation’s senior citizens who have  retired from federal, states and local governments have been waiting to know the minimum pension, which ought to be approved along with the new minimum wage. We therefore call of the President to expedite action over this as New Minimum Pension has been due since 2016,” the group said.

It also felicitated with Christians over the Easter celebrations and called for unity among them and their Muslim counterparts to fight crimes, corruption and other social vices in the country.

On insecurity, the group said:”MMWG is worried by incessant killings and maiming of innocent people especially in the Northern parts of this Country.  We condemn acts of intimidation and harassment of innocent citizens through kidnapping abduction and other forms of terrorism”.
