New Year: SDP tasks Buhari on free, fair, credible polls

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party ( SDP), Chief Olu Falae has counseled the President Muhammadu Buhari government to consider the security and unity of Nigerians as a priority.

The party enjoined President Buhari to act in the interest of all Nigerians by ensuring a free, fair and credible election in the country in the first quarter of the New Year, saying that he should not allow his personal interest to supercede national interest.

This was contained in his  New Year greetings to all Nigerians home and abroad, issued yesterday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Alfa Mohammed.

Chief Falae who wished Nigerians a peaceful and prosperous new year observed that  “our strength of mutual understanding and co-existence that made us rise and live together in peace and unity has been greatly eroded by mal-administration and lackadaisical attitude of our past leaders.”

He urged Buhari to jettison his personal interest for  the national and collective interest of Nigerians for the good of all.

While lamenting the massive killings of Nigerian soldiers fighting insurgency in the North-East, he also urged Nigerians to pray fervently for the country against the looming anarchy.

“As a party, we are saddened that our soldiers like our civilian compatriots are being decimated by what some people tagged rag tag Boko Haram insurgents and herdsmen.

“All these we look forward to quick end. We call on the citizens to intensify prayers to God to guide those in power and imbue them with the capacity and wisdom to tackle the nation’s challenges and avert the looming anarchy,” he said.

The SDP National Chairman expressed optimism that the New Year will usher  in the fulfilment of the aspirations of Nigerians, urging them to cast their votes for the right presidential candidate during the election.
