Neymar ‘nears Barcelona return’

Neymar has reached a “verbal agreement” with Barcelona to make a return to the Nou Camp, according to reports in Spain.

The Brazilian superstar has been heavily linked with a move away from PSG this summer after becoming unhappy with life in the French capital.

And Spanish outlet Sport report Neymar and former club Barca have agreed a five-year contract that will see him take a huge pay cut in order to re-join the La Liga champions.

The 27-year-old is so desperate to return to the club he left Paris for, he reportedly agreed without hesitation to the terms proposed by Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

It is believed Neymar has agreed to a £21.4million-a-year contract with Barca – leaving behind his current £32.8m deal in Paris.

The forward reportedly earned close to £21.4m per season before he joined PSG in summer 2017, and the player had no reluctance over taking a pay cut.

Relations between the two clubs remain sour, though, regarding the record £198m move from two years ago.

Aware Barca could be forced to pay a club-record fee to bring Neymar home, the player has agreed to the drop his wages from £630,700-a-week to £411,500.

Sport claim the Samba star has always preferred a move back to Blaugrana but would have “contemplated” a switch to Real Madrid if Barca chiefs failed to reach a deal with PSG.

It is understood Real were willing to pay more for Neymar, but the player made clear his passion of returning to the club where he was “happiest”.

After agreeing terms with Barca, the South American is awaiting the two clubs to once again reach a transfer agreement.
