NFF, Rohr at loggerheads over new contract

Nigeria Football Federation NFF and Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr are at loggerheads over the renewal of the later’s contact less than two months to the commencement of the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers in Cameroon and Qatar respectively.


The Franco- German’s agent our impeccable source revealed is worried about the delay in forwarding the contract papers to them for perusal.
The NFF has expressed its decision to introduce more stringent clauses into the contract they would present to the German and his agent has asked football house to forward it in time so as to know their next line of action as DR Congo is said to be interested in his services.


The proposed conditions include the submission of his operation to the supervision of the NFF technical committee and to reside in Nigeria. 
He is also expected to remain on his current salary, which will now be taxed unlike what obtained in his current contract.


The 66 year old gaffer had in recently lamented the delay in getting his contract renewed and how he is being owed allowances by the NFF.
The renewal of Rohr’s contract, expected to end June 2020, but based on the provision in his old contract, he is free to start negotiation with any other country interested in him from January.
Meanwhile Super Eagles Skipper, Ahmed Musa and some of his colleagues have be mounting pressure on the football authority to tidy up Rohr’s contract so as to kickstart the Nations Cup and World Cup programmes.


The players have asked NFF to retain the services owing to his performances in the last 40 months he was in charge of the team.
 Ahmed Musa had spoken to the President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick to do everything within his power to ensure that Rohr remain with the team.
The players believe hiring a new coach may set the team back as they may be forced to adopt a new formation which might augur well for them.
 The Eagles are paired with Sierra Leone, Lesotho and Benin in the Africa Cup of Nations which begins in March.
