NGO applauds Buhari on special funding for research, engineering

Technology is the bedrock for the development of any nation, to achieve this feat it requires the commitment of a visionary leader who is able to build consensus and aggregate opinion on any issue to reflect the wishes of the people.

It was on the basis of this assertion that made President Muhammadu Buhari to swing into action when in January 2021 he granted approval for the placement of the National Agency For Science and Engineering (NASENI) directly under the supervision of the Presidency instead of the Ministry of Science and Technology to ensure total compliance with the NASENI Act.

According to a letter from the presidency, signed by the Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has been directed to remit the deducted levy on turnover as approved by Mr President.

The letter said: “I write to inform you that on 24th January 2021 Mr President approved the prayer of the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI Prof. Mohammed Haruna, on the funding of NASENI activities.

It is on this note that the Board and staff of Technology Awareness Foundation (TAF) is exploring this medium to applaud this giant stride of Mr President as it will enhance speedy industrial development and create job opportunities for our teeming youth.

President of TAF, a non-governmental organization, Mr. David Agba, in a statement Monday said the organisation has the vision of becoming the foremost national platform committed to advocacy for Nigeria to imbibe the culture of productivity, research, science, engineering and technology innovation and use of accurate data for all national planning and development.

“ We are set to partner with research and technology institutions to promote inventions and advocate for the right policy environment by government and patronage from Nigerians to encourage the emergence of a Nigeria knowledge-based economy and culture.
