NGO begins campaign on child spacing in Kano

Kano State Chapter of the Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria (NRHJN) in collaboration with The Challenge Initiative (TCI) has commenced awareness campaign on Child Birth Spacing (CBS) services and other reproductive health related issues in the state.

Malam Abdullahi Jalaluddeen, a member of the network disclosed this at the maiden meeting of the group tagged “Media Knowledge Attitude and Practice (KAP) Exercise on Family Planning held in Kano Tuesday.

He said the meeting “will seek to ascertain the level of perception of the selected participants on family planning services and its practice in Kano state.

He maintained that the collaboration would enable the Network to strive through potential members that would make up the state team.

He pointed out that family planning demands and services have series of challenges especially in the areas of understanding the practice and methods,.

He said the campaign would also change the perception of households on what family planning and child birth spacing is all about.

In his remarks, the project coordinator of TCI in the state, Malam Abdullahi Sufi said “journalists have a key role to play in bringing  to the front burner of national discourse issues surrounding reproductive health to both the government and citizens of the state.”

He commended the efforts of Kano state Government in partnering with Donor Agencies and other stakeholders aimed at enlightening the general populace the importance of child birth spacing and other health issues.

He advised Kano state government “to allocate more funds to the health sector to reduce the maternal mortality and other health challenges.”
