It was a cheerful moments for over 200 women in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, when the Catholic Relief Service (CRS), a NonGovernmental Organisation (NGO), empowered them with N1.4 million. According to the Senior Technical Specialist of CRS, Mr Felix Ikirebe, the empowerment programme was aimed at assisting the vulnerable in the society. Ikirebe said that the NGO was carrying out a similar gesture in five states, including Nasarawa state.
He said that women from poor households in Nasarawa State, Benue, Kogi, Edo and FCT, were among the beneficiaries of the current phase of distribution. The CRS technical specialist said the distribution was done in collaboration with another NGO, Child Education and Community Development Initiative (CECDI).
Similarly, the Executive Director of CECDI, Florence Aboki, urged all the 205 beneficiaries, who got N20,000 each, to make judicious use of the money to improve their conditions. Aboki added that the NGO would set a machinery in motion to ensure proper utilisation of the money by the beneficiaries. One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Cecilia Jonathan, expressed gratitude to the NGO for the gesture.
