NGO empowers 150 youth with start-up kits in Yobe

Plan International in partnership with Save the Children, Yobe State Agency for Mass Education (SAME) with funding from Education Cannot Wait (ECW) Multi year resilience Program (MYRP) in Yobe state have empowered 150 Youths who graduated from their skills acquisition programme with various equipment to start-up their own business.

The youths were trained in barbing, hairdressing, welding, food processing, groundnut processing, shoe making, knitting, make up, bit making tailoring, carpentry and handset repairs.

Flagging-off the distribution of the start up kits to the beneficiaries at Gashua in Bade and Fika local government areas in Tuesday, the field Manager, plan International Yobe office, Mr Adakranda Harmis Chama, commended the effort of Education Cannot Wait (ECW) multi year resilience Programme for funding the project in the two local government areas.

Chama advised the beneficiaries to step down the training to their family members, friends and neighbours for all the society to benefit from the gesture.
He described entrepreneurship as a “cardinal means of fighting unemployment, self reliance and fostering economic growth”.

In his remarks, plan International, Education Cannot Wait MYRP project coordinator Yobe Office, Mr Daniel Gambo, said the project ECW MYRP is being implemented in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe since October 2021 with the goal of contributing to improve learning and resilience of boys and girls including adolescents affected by conflict in the BAY states through equitable access to quality education in safe and protective learning spaces.

He stated that,”the project has provided 150 youths with start up kits in their different skills trade with the aim of improving their condition.

“100 participants were drown in Bade while 50 from Fika Communities who undergoes 6 months vocational training and business opportunities today received a start -up kits to set up their business scale at their respective community levels”,said Daniel.

In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Hamidu M. Alhaji, urged the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously and be motivated by their passion in chosen skills to succeed in life.

He reiterated the commitment of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration to promote key factors that drive entrepreneurship for economic sustainability of the teeming youths in the state.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the plan International for touching their lives and pledged to make good use of the equipment giving to them for the purpose intended.

The organisation also handed over a rehabilitated block of 2 classroom, office and store to Zango 1 primary school in Gashua, Bade local government area of the state.
