NGO empowers women for self-reliance

An Abuja-based Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Divine Women of Purpose Association (DWOPA), has empowered poor women and girls on skill acquisition in different trades and crafts.

Speaking at the 5th anniversary celebration and investiture programme of the NGO, on Thursday in Abuja, its founder, Dr. Ijeoma Chikezie, said the gesture designed for the beneficiaries to undertake entrepreneur skill in agro chain business and processing.

She said in the last five years, the NGO had impacted over two million women and girls, adding that in the next five years, the number is expected to move to five million following its spread to other states of the federation.

Chikezie said in the next phase of the project, 50,000 women and girls will be trained and 10,000 will be empowered with start off funds of between N20,000 and N100,000.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. John Kennedy Opara, expressed confident in the ability of DWOPA to alleviate the suffering of the needy.
