NGO hails court’s decision on 37 APC defecting lawmakers

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Team Goodluck Nigeria, has applauded the decision of a Federal High court sitting in Abuja, presided over by Justice Ademola Adeniyi, for declaring the seats of the defecting members of the House of Representatives vacant.

In a statement issued by its national chairman, Chief Sam Osuji, yesterday in Abuja, the organisation described the judgement as a “landmark verdict that should strengthen the fabrics of our emerging democracy.”

It wondered why some opposition leaders were against the judgement of Justice Adeniyi even with the backing of the constitution.
The statement said: “Why is it that each time a judgment is against the opposition they will shout blue murder or that justice has been mis-carried? But when the judgment is in their favour they will applaud the judiciary as being the last hope of the common man. This is double talk, and its time Nigerians see the hypocrisy of the opposition.

“Section 68 (1) of the constitution as amended is very clear on the matter. Therefore, we are calling on the leadership of APC to call their Honourable members to order to honourably vacate their seats immediately, bearing in mind that judgment is over 48 hours and they are yet to obey the court order.”

According to the NGO, their continued stay in the Hallowed Chambers of the National Assembly is an embarrassment to Nigerians and the international community.
