NGO, NAC train mechanics on tricycle repairs

In the bid to fight unemployment amongst youths, a Zaria-based non-governmental organization (NGO), Zazzau Re-orientation Association (ZAROA), in collaboration with National Automotive Council (NAC) has trained 107 local mechanics on tricycles, popularly known as KEKE NAPEP, repairs with view to improving their skills.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the one week training held at Zaria educational development Association’s (ZEDA) Secretariat, the founder of the NGO, Malam Sani Hassan, said the training was initially slated for two weeks, but with the determination and working of trainers mostly from Manufactures of KEKE NAPEP, TVS it was concluded in one week.
He explained that the training was aimed at improving the knowledge of the local mechanics on Keke NAPEP.
“The participants were drawn from eight local government areas of Northern Kaduna Senatorial District,” he said, adding that out the figure 67 trainees were mechanics, while 40 were apprentices.
He pointed out that last year his Orgnization had trained more than 150 Mechanic on repairs of motor-bikes, saying that most them used the certificates and gained employment in some places like Nigeria Railway Corporation and the like.
Also speaking, a lecturer at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Dalhatu Yahaya Balarabe, urged the trainees at make use of the training they received as a tool for nation’s development, adding that transportation was key for the country’s development.
He urged them to train others inorder translate the skill amongst the teeming youth who were jobless.
The lecturer, therefore, commended the effort of the Automotive Council’s Director General, Engr. Aminu Jalal, for what he described as “utmost quest for youth empowerment.”
