A platform known as Peace Architecture Dialogue (PAD) has
re-echoed the need for peaceful co-existence among students of
secondary schools.
The Programme with a theme ‘Special Peace Club’ was targeting 100
students from five different schools in Yobe state comprising of boys
and girls, mostly affected by the insurgency.
Husna Ibrahim, the programme and logistic consultant, Search for
Common Grounds, while declaring the event open in Damaturu on
Wednesday said the clubs were established to maintain of peace.
“This programme is going to be an annual event that will bring the
students together to do things in common like sensitisation,
interaction, drama, among others on the need for peace and justice”.
“The Japanese Ambassador is supposed to be here and be entertained but
that could not happen due to one reason or the other,” she said.
According to her, the peace club that was established recently in schools had helped in bringing peaceful co-existence among the students.
Blueprint reports that the NGO intend to achieve a peaceful
environment for both boys and girls in terms of equal opportunity to
study and empower them for better living standard in the future.
Most of the schools that participated were the ones relocated to the
state capital from the vulnerable areas of Buni Gari, Buniyadi and
Goniri communities.
Highlight of the programme was a drama presentation which urged parents to enroll the girl-child into school.
