NGO to take 10,000 Kaduna kids off streets

The persistent menace of street urchins that has defied several government’s effort over the years has attracted the attention of a Non-Governmental Organisation, Kathleen Heart Relief Foundation (KHRF).
The foundation promoter, Kathleen Rabi Shehu unveiled many programmes of the foundation to include taking back ten thousand Kaduna kids to school, empowering parents of the kids, providing shelter and clothing to the most vulnerable kids in the society.
Mrs. Shehu said: ”Government at all levels, capable individuals and corporate organisations must partner to approach head-long the problem of out of school kids which if not addressed will derail any governments’ effort towards having a peaceful society”.
She enjoined government’s at all levels to declare free and qualitative education as enjoyed by kids in American and several Western countries.
“I can assure you when you have an educated society, the problem of insecurity and many social vices would have been addressed.
“These kids have potentials, all they need is encouragement and support to take them off the streets and educate them in a condusive atmosphere of learning so that they could be useful members of the society.
“It is totally heart- broken seeing these kids begging and roaming about the streets in tatters and the society seems unconcerned”, she lamented.
Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna Council, Comrade Adamu Yusuf who received Mrs.
Shehu and her entourage at the state secretariat lauded the efforts of the foundation and pledged to partner with her to achieve goals and objectives of the foundation of educating the children and providing the necessary items to them.
He commended the foundation for distributing learning and Instruction materials to one hundred kids across schools in Kaduna metropolis.
Comrade Yusuf challenged Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and other members of NUJ, Kaduna council to as a matter of priority key into the laudable programmes of Mrs.
Shehu so that her efforts would be a success.
