NGO advises Gombe on free education for girls

Association of Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) has called on Gombe state government to intensify effort on girl-child education in other to promote the development of women entrepreneurship in the state.
Chairman of the association, Comrade Yusuf Ibrahim, stated shortly after a stakeholders meeting held by the association on girl-child education that while many calls had been made on governments to intensify effort on girl child education especially in the northern part of the country, there was no commiserate achievement in the state.
He said  recent reports  revealed that Gombe is one of the states in the north with worse girl-child education and female literacy indices, while there is little or no effort to bridge the gender gap on developmental opportunities.
He, however, advised that government should create platforms to improve partnership with International Development Partners, Non-governmental Agencies to ensure sustainable programmes that would provide free education and scholarships for girls in the state.
While, appealing to female politicians to rise to the challenges, he said the few number of women, who had been opportune to occupy decisive positions, could contribute their quota in the girl-child development and women empowerment in the state.
