Civil rights organisations; CLEEN Foundation and Prison Inmates Development Initiative (PIDI-Nigeria) have called on Bauchi state House of Assembly to pass the whistle blower policy bill into law.
Executive Director, PIDI-Nigeria, Mr Mbami Iliya Sabka, made the call when he led members of the organisations on a courtesy visit to the Speaker Bauchi state House of Assembly Abubakar Suleiman on Wednesday.
According to him, if the whistle blower bill is passed into law, it will go a long way in eradicating corruption in the state as the general public will be encouraged to expose corrupt practices in government offices.
“CLEEN Foundation and Prison Inmates Development Initiative (PIDI-Nigeria) Bauchi wish to advocate for the passage of whistle blower policy bill for domestication.
” Sir, following your tract records, we sincerely believe that you will personally set up a committee that will fight against corruption for the betterment of people of Bauchi state and to move this motion for the adoption of whistle blower policy within the shortest possible time in Bauchi state,” he said.
Sabka explained that PIDI-Nigeria engaged deeply in fighting corruption, monitoring and evaluations of human rights violation and abuses in Nigeria especially where access to justice is not provided to the downtrodden persons.
Responding, the speaker, Abubakar Suleiman said the bill was a welcome development, asking the advocates to prepare a motion in that regard and submit to the assembly so that it could deliberate on it.
