NHRC, UN launch code to curtail human rights offenses 

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in collaboration with the United Nations (UN) office in Nigeria,  weekend launched a call center short code 6472 at the 75th anniversary campaign on Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and other activities to curtail human rights abuses in the society.

While unveiling the UDHR75 logo at a press conference to commemorate the 2022 event, the executive secretary of the (NHRC), Chief Tony Ojukwu, SAN said the effort is geared towards simplifying human rights complaints and bringing easy communication to every concerned user as it attracts no charges.

The sort code, he said will provide an easy access to the commission for complaints on human rights violations. He urged the media for continuous unsolicited commitment to getting the initiative of the UDHR across to Nigerians.

In his opening remarks, the United National Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Matthias Schmale, expressed his fears on the 20 million out-of-school children that still exist in the country. 

He noted that development can only occur when human rights issues are embedded in every aspect of governance process.
