NIALS builds capacity for the Nigerian Navy

Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) has pledged to continue to build the capacity of personnel of the Nigerian Navy for optimum output in their operations.

The institute’s Director-General, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, stated this yesterday at a three-day capacity building workshop entitled: “Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies/Nigerian Navy Military Law Training Course” in Abuja.

He said: “I want to assure you that the institute will always be prepared to work and rub shoulders to shoulders with you in the course of trying to build capacity for the Navy and for the Armed Forces, and we are happy that we have been so selected based on our credibility
and integrity of doing this over the years and we will continue to do this without relenting.”

Azinge enumerated the numerous security challenges confronting the country and promised the institute’s commitment to work with the military in bringing these challenges to an end.
“This is a very critical moment in our history, as there are some security challenges all over the place; whether at the areas where we have a state of emergency, places where we have challenges of oil bunkering and some piracy activities on our high seas.”

In a keynote address, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, said the training came at a time when the country was faced with enormous security challenges, especially in the Sahel and the Gulf of Guinea.
Jibrin, who was represented by Commodore E.O. Enemor, said “the dilemma of the military personnel in the 21st century is the expectation that the military should treat its foes with humanity.”

He advised military officers and men to acquire superior skills in order to fulfill demanding roles, adding that “military personnel should be more flexible, better trained and educated.”
He charged political leaders to provide good governance for their people as a way of curtailing security challenges.
