Nigeria Diaspora Alumni Network (NiDAN) has adopted Kuje School for the Deaf as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project.
The organisation after several visits to the school on a fact finding mission, decided that the school’s IT and teacher training needs were paramount and warranted at least one year’s support if not more.

Its chairman, Prof. Manny Aniebonam, said, “These kids have no visual aid, they have hearing impairments and so communication through visuals is paramount; they need access to computers with interactive teaching aid, and projectors. it will open up their world.”
He said: “We will provide all these and also assist the teachers by providing additional skills for special needs teaching. Teachers will take part in a half-day training session, provided by professional teacher-training specialists from the NiDAN group.”
He said the school would benefit from new IT equipment as well as repairing all 16 computers that have not been functional over a period in the school.

In preparation for the launch of the project and to ensure that the children are in a bright and beautiful environment always, NiDAN said its members would give a facelift to the sc  hool.
NiDAN’s spokesperson, Christine Shuaibu, said; “We will ensure that the kids have a conducive bright environment to learn, which is so important for all children, talk less of those with hearing impairment. In the true spirit of NiDAN, members will be putting on their ‘Do it Yourself’ (DIY) gear and grabbing their paint and brushes to give the library a mini make over.”

The computer programmes would be donated by Global Distance Learning Institute (GDLI) managed by AfriHUB Nigeria Ltd, which according to Aniebonam “will greatly enhance the learning experience for both the students and teachers.”
“We are delighted that we have chosen Kuje School as the aim of NiDAN is to give back and make a difference in our own little way.”
