Niger APC, Aliyu bicker over campaign promises

The Niger state chapter of the All Progressive (APC) and the state governor, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, have locked horns over the performance assessment of his administration since inception in 2007.
Following Aliyu’s assertion last week in Gulu that he had fulfilled the administration’s campaign promises to the people, the opposition party told him to stop telling lies and face the repercussion of his failure.

In a statement issued by Umar Shuaibu, interim committee member of APC in the state, the party said the governor’s statement was “cheap propaganda, gimmick and tantamount to undermining the intelligence of the people of the state.”
However, the governor in his reaction yesterday said the opposition party was too blind to see the achievements of his administration.
Aliyu’s statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo, said the administration had stamped its seal of excellence on all the critical sectors of the state’s economy.

It said: “The APC will definitely be blind to the wind of revolution blowing across the state because its criticism is not only malicious but lacks sincerity. It is sad that the APC believes that good governance is only possible when opposition wins election in the state.”
However, APC said: “We would like to remind the public that Governor Aliyu promised to construct 10 km roads for each of the 25 local governments in the state. In the seven years of his tenure, this is yet to be fulfilled. The governor also promised to provide 5000 housing units spread across the four major towns of the state with 1, 000 units in Minna alone. In Minna, the target is still not attained and qualities of the houses are grossly substandard.”
It insisted that instead of paying attention to the boasting and flagrant cheap propaganda that he had delivered all his campaign promises, it would not be out of place to consider the Governor Aliyu’s administration as one with the worst dismal performance in the annals of Niger state.
