Niger chief judge bows out Friday

Chief Judge of Niger state, Justice Aliyu Muhammad Mayaki, will bow out of service today after attaining the ripe age of retirement.

The event, a valedictory session in honour of the retiring chief judge has been scheduled to hold at the state High Court complex and  it is expected to be attended by legal luminaries, including Supreme Court Judges, serving and former chief judges of states, high court judges and members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).

The programme of event available from the protocol department indicates that a valedictory dinner will also follow by 7.30pm at Justice Legbo Kutigi International Conference Hall, Minna.

The chief registrar of the High Court of Justice, Niger state, Jibril Zabbo, described the outgoing chief judge as an accomplished legal luminary who served the state diligently and meritoriously.

Speaking with Blueprint, the chief registrar said the retiring chief judge contributed immensely to the development and adjudication of justice in the state.

The retiring chief judge was called to Bar on 22nd November, 1980 and secured his first appointment as a magistrate in the Niger state judiciary in 1981.

He also served in various positions at the judiciary headquarters in Minna from  Deputy Chief Registrar before rising to become the Chief Registrar, Niger state High Court in 1994.

He  got appointed as a judge of the state High Court in 1998, became acting Chief Judge on 15th June 2019 while he was confirmed as Chief Judge of Niger state on 2nd August 2019.
