Niger disburses N100m to 171 PHC facilities – Commissioner

Niger state government has disbursed N100 million to 171 Primary Health Care facilities to commence the implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund in the state.

The state Commissioner of Health and Hospital Management, Dr. Mohammed Makunsidi stated this is a press briefing in Minna.

He explained that the state is the first to meet up with the laid down criteria, and gave out its commitment fee of N100 million.

He said, “The fund received from the program was disbursed to 171 out of 274 primary healthcare facilities in the state after proper assessment”.

The commissioner said that Niger state has commenced the basic healthcare provision fund implementation in order to support effective delivery of primary healthcare services in the state.

He described the program as a large scale reform financed by annual grant of one percent consolidation revenue of the Federal Government, grant from international donors and funds from other sources.

According to him, the National Health Act, which was enacted in 2014, led to the introduction of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund to enhance effective delivery of primary healthcare services in the country.

 Makunside stated that Niger state alongside Abia and Osun were the only states that qualified to be piloted while Niger became the first to meet up criteria for accessing the fund.

He said that the funds would be sent directly to the facilities in order to ensure judicious utilisation.
