Niger state government has given commercial motorcycle operators, also known as okada riders, eight weeks ultimatum to find alternative means of livelihood before the ban on their operation take effect in the City.
Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu disclosed this on Tuesday, adding that the Suleja local government council requested the state government to effect the ban on the operation of okada in Suleja town.

Aliyu defended the decision of government to ban commercial motorcycle operation in Minna, saying that the operators were discovered to be foreigners who had no stake in the state and that they also contributed to the high rate of accident recorded in the state.

He further directed the Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Garba Mohammed, to provide 300 tricycles within four weeks to be distributed to those to be disengaging in Suleja town.
Speaking with journalists, the commissioner said his ministry would liaise with Sure-P to make the tricycle available as directed by the governor.
