Niger gov probes council chair over fraud allegations

Niger State governor Abubakar Sani Bello has set up a 3-man panel to investigate the allegations against the Shiroro Local Government Chairman, Suleiman Dauda Chukuba, who was recently suspended by the legislators of the council.

Inaugurating the panel at the Government House, Minna, the governor said setting up the committee is key in resolving the political impasse in the council and in accordance with the provision of the law.

He said he has no doubt that the panel will do justice to the issue and asked the committee to submit its report in four weeks.

“I have no doubt that you will do justice to it and come up with a report within the shortest possible time”, he said.

The governor directed the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barrister Nasara Danmallam to provide the committee with all that is needed for it to succeed in the task.

Responding, the leader of the panel, Justice Halima Abdulmalik of the State High Court, assured the governor that the panel will do its best in discharging its responsibility and will accord fair hearing to all parties involved.

She also promised to complete the assignment within the stipulated time frame.

The Shiroro Local Government Chairman was suspended in December 2020, by the legislative council following some allegations.

The council equally wrote the governor of its resolution and requested him to set up a three man panel headed by a High Court Judge as required by the law, to investigate all allegations.
