Niger police neutralise 7 terrorists, arrest 18 thugs

The Police in Niger state has neutralised seven bandits who had been terrorising farmers within Kumbashi district of Mariga local government area of the state.

In a related development, the Police also arrested 18 miscreants and thugs in Minna over criminal activities in the city.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger state police command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, stated this in a statement issued Friday in Minna.

“Police tactical teams and local vigilante/hunters stationed at Kumbashi town engaged the bandits in a shootout, and seven of the hoodlums were neutralised while others escaped into the forest with gunshot injuries,” he said.

He said “unfortunately, two members among the vigilante group sustained bullet wounds and were taken to Kontagora Gen. Hospital for treatment.”

He disclosed further that the suspects were involved in the recent youth restiveness, thuggery and clashes between some miscreants of Ogbomosho Street, Angwan-Daji and Limawa area of Minna.

“On 05/11/2022 at about 2130hrs, some miscreants of these areas engaged themselves in a fight with dangerous weapons, and as a result, one Ashiru Tofa ‘m’ of Limawa area was stabbed to death.

“As a follow-up to the unfortunate incident, on November 11, this year, at about 1830hrs, Police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division Minna arrested a notorious handset-snatcher/thug, one UMAR AMINU 22yrs aka Ogobin ‘m’ of Limawa, who usually disguised himself as a tricycle rider to rob victims of their personal belongings.

“Furthermore, on 15/11/2022 at about 0100hrs, during a sting operation led by Area Commander Minna and Police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division Minna conducted a house to house search/raid, in which the said OGOBIN identified and aided the Police to arrest seventeen (17) other miscreants.”
