Nigeria breeds monarchs instead of leaders – Cleric

The founder of Christ City Church in Akwa Ibom state, Bishop Uyioata Kingsley, has said that democracy was yet to be domesticated in Nigeria. He said the country is flooded with monarchs instead of leaders.

The clergy stated this while interacting with newsmen at his church auditorium in Uyo Tuesday.

Kingsley attributed the insecurity rocking the country to failed governance and lack of concern for the people meant to be cared for as democracy demands.

He said the leadership crisis remains a major setback that the nation must pay deep attention to.

“Most people claim leadership when they don’t have any idea of what leadership is all about. It is about sacrifice, but they go into public offices and start embezzling money.

“A leader is not a selfish or self-centered man. They use the four years and pack money that even the fourth generation cannot finish. They loot people’s money and use people, and dump them forgetting what democracy stands for.

“Most killings seen around is because some people are provoked watching their parent dying with getting their entitlement,” he said.

Commenting on the role of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kingsley said the body has failed by meddling in partisan politics instead of evangelistic mission.

He said most pastors, instead of preaching the gospel for the salvation of souls were running around politicians  for self-aggrandisement, adding that money gotten from politicians was likened to “receiving money from a prostitute.”

He said in Akwa Ibom state, true and core Christians were microscopic few, adding that many people claiming to be Christians in the state were engrossed with ‘pulling-down syndrome’ for their brothers which was against Christ-like doctrine.
