‘Nigeria can’t stand unless lawyers rule her’

A legal practitioner from Abia state, Barrister Pius Emmanuel, has sounded it loud and clear that Nigeira cannot stand unless lawyers are given an opportunity to rule the country.
Speaking from the ongoing 2014 Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Owerri, he said if a lawyer was given an opportunity he would look at the “rule of law” which he described as the principle used by developed or civilised countries to govern their people. He added that with strict adherence to the rule of law everything would be orderly and well programmed to make the country great.
Emmanuel regretted that in Nigeria some people felt they were above the law which was what kept the country at stand still, adding that if you had nobody supporting you, you were finished.

The Abia state-born legal practitioner seized the opportunity to commend the organisers of the Owerri Conference for their efforts in securing a befitting venue for the conference, ensuring that there was transport from hotel rooms to the conference venue, ensuring that food was available and for the cheap hotel accommodation unlike what happened in last year’s conference in Calabar.
He was, however, quick to point out that there were not enough sight-seeing sites in Owerri as was the case in Calabar and that the banquet hall where  Governor Okorocha had a  gala night  with the lawyers did not contain them as  many of them stood outside for some time and had to angrily leave for their hotel rooms.
