Nigeria Customs donates, Yobe govt distributes relief materials to vulnerable persons



Yobe state government has flagged off the distribution of food and non-food relief materials to returnees in 17 local government councils of the state, nine Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) groups, Orphans and disabled persons in Yobe state donated by the Nigeria Customs Service.

Flagging off the symbolic distribution on Thursday in Damaturu, the
Chairman, Committee on Post Insurgency, Reconstruction, Resettlement
and Rehabilitation, who is also the Deputy Governor of Yobe State,
Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, represented by commissioner of Education,
Mohammed Lamin, called on the local governments to distribute the items
judiciously to the beneficiaries.

“Today we are witnessing the distribution of relief and empowerment
items to beneficiaries in Yobe state. This distribution is necessitated by the recent attacks by the insurgents which have made life difficult for some people.”

“These items were donated by the Nigeria Customs Service to be
distributed to returnee IDPs and vulnerable groups in the state. Which
we believe will cushion the suffering of the people affected and their
host communities,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the State Emergency
Relief Agency (SEMA), Musa Idi Jidawa, charged the beneficiaries not to
sell the items because it would help them to regain their means of
livelihood.

Items distributed includes, 18,190 bags of rice, 2,545 jerry cans of
vegetable oil, 1,619 cartoons of spaghetti, 200 bags of salt, assorted
clothes, shoes and toiletries.  Other items include 531 sets of sewing
machines and 270 sets of home grinding machines.

Blueprint gathered that 18 women development centres in the state, female
disabled persons, remand homes, orphanage, vulnerable groups were
among the targeted beneficiaries.
