Nigeria Decides: INEC keeps voters waiting in Kabusa, card reader malfunctions in Gwarimpa

An eligible voter, Jeremiah Peter, at the Pyakasa Polling Unit in Kabusa ward has lamented very late arrival of INEC officials, saying until now (11:26 am) voting is yet to commence.

Speaking exclusively to Blueprint,  Peter said the polling unit has a population of over 3000 voters, adding that the enthusiastic voters are getting dissappointed over the slow process.

“As I speak to you, the voters has broken the barricade between them and INEC officials just to check their names on the list to enable them exercise their civic rights.

“There is large turn out of women, youths and men and the population here is over 3000. Instead of pasting list yesterday, it is after 10am that the officials arrive and pasted the list and this is not encouraging,” he said.

“People are enthusiastic to exercise their rights but the officials are over three hours late and the place is getting rowdy.

“People are not as coordinated as they were in the morning when they arrived. The entrance has been broken and we just hope that the process today will be without chaos, he added.

At Gwarinpa 2 Model school, voting is going on at other units except polling unit 024 whose card reader is malfunctioning.

The INEC staff in conjugation with the corps members however resolved the problem by resorting to the voters’ register to authenticate voters before being issued ballot papers to vote.

The excercise has continued smoothly
