There is reported massive disenfranchisement of Voters in various polling centres in Abuja including popular voting points at LEA primary School, Area 1 Garki.
Blueprint senior Correspondent Zainab Suleiman Okino reports that logistical challenges and change of voting centre almost caused confusion at the polling unit 020 at Apo Resettlement, Apo.
This was disclosed to Blueprint by Ola Akinyemi of the Caritas Nigeria of the Catolic Centre under the aegis of Justice Development and Peace Committe during a monitoring visit to the place.
The electorate in the past voted at the Apo Primary school which many people are used. Unknown to them the polling unit had been shifted to the front of Butu filling station popularly called Dankogi.
While the issue of where to vote was quickly settled, that of logistics still lingered at the time of Blueprint’s visit at 11am.
Corps members and other adhoc staff were seen perching on blocks, stones and mats to do their work.
At various points at Garki, there are fears that many people would be disenfranchised as the list containing names of voters are no where to be found in Area 1, polling unit 003.
Up until 11.45 when Blueprint left the place distrought voters were seen complaining about the problem. Pastor Jezie said he suspected “foul play” at play.
Explaining further he said: ” The list was pasted on the wall. People saw their names on the wall, but the officials do not handy copies to use to trace voters’ names. I’m suspecting foul play”, Jezie said.
Matina Obi and Andrew also complained and left the venue dejected.
