Nigeria drops 4 steps in education quality index

Nigeria has been ranked 124th in the Global Competitiveness Rankings (GCR) on education released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The country was at the 120th position when the ranking was last rated earlier this year.
Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) stated that the previous education quality 2018 statistics by World Economic Forum, rated 10 best countries: It placed Switzerland of the first position, followed by Singapore, Finland, Netherlands, United States (US) and Qatar, while Canada, New Zealand United Arab Emirate (UAE) and Denmark emerged at the seventh, eight, nine and 10th positions, while UK was at 20th, Turkey at 99th and Brazil at 119, just a step ahead of Nigeria.
Egypt was rated 129th and Yemen 137th, but the latest ranking saw Egypt move to 116th.
However, some observers have queried the modus operandi of the rating, asking “what are the criteria?” Other observers suspected “it seems that foreign teachers and English learning priority have been taken into serious consideration”.
Another asked: “What are the criteria being used to measure education quality?” The critic noted that “publishing this type of list with no criteria is irresponsible”
