National chairman of National Action Council (NAC), Dr. Olapade Agoro, has advocated for more specialised universities in the country.
Agoro in a statement iin Ibadan said for the nation’s socio-economic development to be fast-tracked, “the time has come for the establishment of more specialised universities in the country.”
“One can boldly and convincingly say here that Nigeria now needs more of specialised universities for her to progressively move forward and not to be held down by rough-hewn universities lacking adequate manpower, human resources and proven technicalities.”
According to him, the efforts of the National Universities Commission (NUC) towards “moving tertiary education delivery system in Nigeria into the global sphere of the much-needed electro-technology driven advancement and development” need commendation.
He stressed that the promotion of specialised mono culture e-learning based universities would go a long way in supporting the new drive of the NUC in the best interest of national value appreciation and knowledge upgrading.
“I have never ceased to believe that modern day education dissemination in Nigeria devoid of e-learning and systemised modicum is not only backward looking, but a containment of retardants of progressive value essentials.
“The fact that NUC had in the past wisely given operational approval and licences to institutions like Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Federal University of Technology, Akure, etc and the newly promoted Niger Delta Peace University connoted specialised educational orientation.”
