Nigeria needs restructuring – Gana

A former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, yesterday said the country needed restructuring, even as he accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of “failing woefully” to provide security for the safety of Nigerians.
Gana, who was in Makurdi, the Benue state capital, to attend the Middle-Belt Mega Rally/Conference, stated that the “current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to provide security and safety of people, which is the primary responsibility of government.” According to him, there is need for restructuring of the Nigerian Police to provide for federal, state and even community police so that the people can be safe.
Gana, who also stated these in an interview with newsmen at the venue of the Mega Rally, noted that “in as much as Nigerians will want to live in harmony with one another they will never tolerate the situation where they are killed and their land taken away.” “We love peace, we love freedom, love federal republic of Nigeria but we’ll never accept that our lands are taken away from us and will become homeless people in our own country.
It’s not possible.
“The Constitution of Nigeria provides, and we agreed with it, that the security and safety of people is the primary responsibility of government and any government that cannot perform this primary duty has failed.
It is my view therefore, that this APC government has failed, failed and failed woefully,” he said.
Gana, an SDP presidential aspirant, also said there was the need to “devolve power to the federating units so that they will have constitutional power and authority to look after the basic needs of their people such as the need of security, health, housing, agriculture and for other developments at the basic levels.”
