Nigeria Taekwondo Int’l Open: More Athletes rush to beat deadline as NTF extends registration

Following request by Athletes amidst registration bottlenecks, the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) has extended the ongoing registration ahead of first ever Nigeria Taekwondo Int’l Open to another seven days.

Making this known on Sunday, Technical Director of NTF, Engr. Chika Chukwumerije maintained that already 45 Athletes from United States, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and host, Nigeria have successfully completed their while 63 others from Tunisia, Senegal, Togo, Benin Republic and Mali as well as Nigeria are still pending.

According to him: “Registration deadline for Nigeria Taekwondo International Open has been shifted by seven days to 29th January 2018 by popular request. This is to allow athletes who have registered OFFLINE to complete their ONLINE registration on the World Taekwondo Registration Portal.

Registration Number so Far: 45 Athletes from Nigeria, USA, DR Congo, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Cameroon have completed their online registration so far. There are 63 pending offline registrations from Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Benin Republic, Mali, Tunisia.

Chukwumerije, a former Olympian and the only Nigerian to have won a taekwondo medal at any Olympic Games also revealed that updated national ranking have been released.

In the latest ranking, Athletes from Delta, Kebbi Plateau, Rivers, Oyo, Lagos, Kano, Abia and FCT are toping the ranking chat.

Sanusi Abdulmujeed (Delta state), Samuel Okon (Kebbi), Ifeoluwa Ajayi (QMadi, Lagos) Shola Olowokere (Delta), Bright Kolade (Kebbi), Chukwudi Nzelu (Oyo), Sunday Onofe (Rivers) and Sadiq Abdulrahman (Plateau) made the top eight in the male category.

Josephine Esuku (Rivers), Sekimat Adebayo (Kano), Chinazom Nwosu (Rivers), Peace Asonye (Abia), Vivian Ndu (Rivers), Elizabeth Anyanacho (FCT), Uzoamaka Otuadinma (Delta) and Chiamaka Onomonu (Rivers) emerged tops in the female sort.

It would be recalled that the entire Athletes dazzled at the just concluded 19th National Sports Festival, held in Abuja

On NTF official calendar for 2019, the Technical Director hinted: “Widespread consultation with States is currently taking place in order to fine-tune the final NTF event calendar.”
