Nigeria Taekwondo President, 100 others return to school as WT Coaching course takes off

All is now set for the epoch-making World Taekwondo (WT) Coaching Certificate Course scheduled between December 15 and 16 inside VIP hall, package B of MKO Abiola National stadium Abuja.

Already, accreditation has been conducted and concluded on Saturday evening with 101 coaches ready to roll.

Among them are the President of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), Mrs Elizabeth Margret Binga, and a top NTF board member Grand Master Anthony Anafulu, set for the two-day training with WT resource person Waheed Hussein and Olympic Bronze medallist Engr. Chika Chukwumerije anchoring proceedings.

Hussein who arrived Nnamdi Azikiwe international Airport Abuja Friday evening from Egypt expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation so far.

He said despite participation by other countries, Nigerians are the greatest beneficiaries.

NTF President Binga, a WT known international referee said her desire to participate during the course was due to her desire to keep learning.

“I’m always eager to learn. From being an athlete to Referee, then an administrator, delving into coaching proper will be an added advantage as long as acquisition of knowledge is concern.

“I have been longing for this. I was about the first person to pay, and I believe that the experience will be worthwhile. I urge every participant to take uttermost advantage of this rare opportunity.”

Coaches from other part of Africa including Ghana, Cameroon, Mali, Togo and Chad are also participating.

One of them is Maxwell Anoye, Ghana National coach. He said the experience garnered at the coaching course would be of immense benefit especially at the grassroots.

Meanwhile, the final result of the yet to be concluded Best of the Best Taekwondo Championship has started trickling in.

In the male -58kgkg category, Abdulfathi Sanusi of Q-Madi emerged the winner after a round-robin competition format. He beat Abdulateef Arinola Olawale in the last fight. Benjamin Okuomose of the Nigerian Army dealt a big blow to his opponents before he finally triumphed Sunday Onofe of NSCDC in the +80kg malecategory.

In the female -67kg, young, but perennial champions Elizabeth Anyanacho of team CCSF toppled Vivian Ndu of NSCDC in the final proceeding. More results were still being awaited as at the time of filling this report.
