Nigeria to host 2019 AEAA annual conference

Nigeria has been elected to host the 37th edition of Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA), in 2019 with the emergence of the Head of National office of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), in Nigeria Mr. Olu Adenipekun, as vice president of the association.
The conference, which would draw participants from Africa and around the world, would take place in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between August 5 and 9, 2019.
Adenipekun, who would serve for one year, was named at the 36th annual conference of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA) held in Maseru, Lesotho.
A statement made available to Blueprint in Abuja, stated he succeeded Dr. Litsabako Ntoi of the Examinations Council of Lesotho (ECOL).
According to the statement, 325 delegates from 27 countries, including Nigeria attended the conference, with the theme: “Reforming Educational Assessment: A Renewed Agenda”, Twenty-seven countries across the globe were present and 82 papers presented, while the Minister of Education and Training, Kingdom of Lesotho, Prof Ntoi Rapapa, who declared the conference open, also presented the address.
Rapapa said the conference was a wakeup call for assessment bodies, as the 21st century knowledge, skills and expertise required them to critically assess their role.
The AEAA is a non-profit making organisation established in 1982 to promote and encourage cooperation amongst examination and assessment bodies in Africa.
It mandates include sponsorship of international participation in the field of educational testing and examination; commission and coordinate research projects.
Others are improving assessment, testing and examining within the individual member countries through the activities of the association.
It is affiliated to the International Association of Educational Assessment (IAEA).
Adenipekun informed delegates that the 37th annual AEAA conference would come with the theme: “Innovations in educational assessment” will be hosted by WAEC, Nigeria at the Ladi Kwali Conference Centre, Sheraton Abuja Hotel, Abuja.
He assured that adequate efforts are being made to ensure a successful hosting of the 37th Annual AEAA Conference and used the opportunity to invite delegates to Abuja, Nigeria, come August 2019.
