NigeriaAt59: ActionAid, CITAD take SDGs awareness to Dakwa, others

In commemoration of Nigeria at 59 independence celebration, ActionAid Nigeria in collaboration with the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) took the awareness of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to Dakwa, Gofidna, Jiwa, Gwagwalada communities among others .

The programme was themed :“Leave no one behind “ Alerting Nigeria Children on the SDGs.

Local Right Programme Unit, ActionAid Nigeria , Joseph Augustine, said their aim was to sensitize and educate the young people and children in the communities on the SDG goals, majorly the goal number 4,5 and 16 by playing a role of achieving the SDGs in their communities.

He said so far, ActionAid has been able to establish ICT centres around Abuja communities as people currently in different communities are connecting to their event.

He also said people from Pasipa , Gaube and Dakwa communities are connected to the ongoing program.

Joseph said ActionAid has been able to develop connectivity among young people to learn how the internent can connect people from one location to another.

Also, the Sponsorship Officer for CITAD, Salma Abdulwaheed lamented that the rural communities are left behind in the SDGs.

She explained that the SDGs are planned towards reducing poverty and achieving development in the country.

“Some of them don’t even know what the SDGs are and what is meant for, so we’re here to enlighten and educate them . ActionAid and CITAD are bridging the gap on digital inclusion and to see the rural communities are not left behind  when it comes to ICT,” she said.

Also, the Traditional ruler of Dakwa community, Shuaibudeen Samu lauded that good gesture of ActionAid for it good gesture so far, calling on the Federal Government to provide them with basic amenities such as roads, light  and schools.

He said the community which has been in existence for over 900 years has over 1 million residents.
