Nigerian democracy poor due to corrupt, selfish leadership – ADC chieftain

National Organising Secretary of African Democratic Congress (ADC) Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman has rated Nigeria’s 21 years unbroken democracy low, blaming poor, selfish and corrupt leadership.
Speaking ahead of the 60th independence anniversary, Ibrahim Suleiman, said Nigeria has had 21 uneventful years of democracy, as Nigerians are yet to enjoy dividends of democracy because of poor, inefficient, selfish and corrupt leadership foisted on the country.

“The citizens are worse off today compared to the days of military dictatorship. Despite 21 years of democracy, Nigeria is not yet out of the woods because of poor leadership. It is sad to observe that the nation is yet to enjoy basic amenities of life such as uninterrupted electricity supply, potable drinking water, good roads, access to healthcare and education almost 60 years after independence.
”We fought to drive away military regime 1992 to 1999 but the military dropped their khaki and hijacked our struggle in agbada and failed to create a virile democratic environment. What you don’t have you can never give.

“The retired military in Babariga can never give us dividends of democracy if they are not adaptive, rather they have foisted their undemocratic command and control tradition on the polity. We now see rising cases of insurgency, kidnapping, killers herdsmen, wanton killing of innocent Nigerians and other criminal activities.”
The ADC chieftain claimed that “Nigeria is now in dire and urgent need of good and transformational leaders that are purpose driven, with fear of God and love of the people. Nigeria needs leaders such as we have in Dubai, Malaysia and Singapore. We fervently need leaders that want to genuinely serve the people and not looters and wasters of our commonwealth”.

Suleiman however admonished Nigerians to persevere as “parties like ADC and leaders like our national chairman, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu are set to bring succour to the people and move Nigeria to compete amongst the top 10 countries in the world. Note that salvation is in parties like ADC and not those that have controlled and corrupted the system since 1999 both at states and federal levels.
“ADC is the only authentic platform in the democratic process, the party is working around the clock to see that Nigerians truly enjoy the dividends of democracy. Our party will attend to the looming revolution of the unemployed youths by implementing serious empowerment programs, massive entrepreneurial initiatives and skill acquisition, instead of the wastefulness of the current regime.

“Insecurities will be a thing of the past if you work with ADC. All our political structures should be strengthened and the doctrine of separation of power reinforced. We are going to deemphasize the use of money in our politics,” he said
