Nigerian Legion realises N4m in Gombe

The Nigerian Legion, Gombe state chapter yesterday realised 4.195 million at its 2018 emblem appeal fund and launch, with highest donation of N3million coming from the stae government.
Speaking at the event, the state governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo said the celebration was not only about the fallen heroes and their dependants alone but included those who suffered various depravations.
“Today is a moment of sober reflection on the plight of the families left behind; it is disheartening that many of them cannot fend for themselves, not to talk of paying their school fees,” he said.
He called on the general public to use the opportunity to reciprocate the service rendered by the fellow compatriots.
The governor who commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for decimating the Boko Haram insurgents also called on the members of the Nigerian Legion to fully mobilize their members as a reserved force to assist in checking the activities of criminals in the state.
Also speaking, chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Gombe chapter, Malam Ibrahim Madaki, commended the state government for its support.
He said the Legion had achieved some objective through the support of the state government and the public, explaining that the amount realised during the 2017 emblem launch was spent judiciously.
He said 40 widows of the fallen heroes were empowered with sewing machines to alleviate their suffering and requested for piece of land for the construction of befitting secretariat as well as allocation of holy pilgrimage to members as well as a vehicle for the state chapter and motorcycle each to area councils in the state for routine duties.
