Nigerian Navy celebrates success amist covid-19

The Nigerian Navy on Monday said that crime has reduced in the maritime sector of the Niger Delta region due to the sustained efforts of its personnel in policing the maritime domain.

Rear Admiral Saidu Garba Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Central Naval Command in yenagoa disclosed this during a chat with newsmen in yenagoa shortly after the end of Navy week sunset ceremony 2020.

The occasion which indicates the success to end the naval year and beginning of a new era.

The FOC said, “that the command successfully held the 2020 Nigerian Navy week amidstst the pandemic, he charged officers and rating to maintain all precautionary measures of coronavirus. Nigeria navy is determined that it mandates not only maintained but to take it to the next level, where piracy will be minimize in our waterways, and bring all the maritime criminality that we have been experiencing in our waterways.

“Indeed, in the last one year the Nigerian navy has achieved so much. I want to assure you that all directive against the COVID-19 is followed by the navy, we have also assisted the civil authority in maintaining traffic in our waterways and we will continue to give palliative across the board especially the less privileged and the motherless.

“They have been a drastic reduction in oil theft, illegal oil bunkering, sea piracy, and other forms of illegalities along the waterways.

“We have maintained a steady patrol at sea, with a view to securing the maritime domain for vandals.

“I must specially thank Mr. President, the legislature and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, for rejuvenating and supporting the Navy to carry out its constitutional duties to blossom.” 

According to him, the Nigerian navy has conducted and participated in over sixty exercises and operation all this he said is geared toward ensuring a safe and secure maritime environment.

“The Nigerian Navy has improved on maritime security,  training and retaining of personnel fighting capability and operational effectiveness on the waters in the gulf of guinea.

“These vessels will enhance effective patrol of the maritime domain and will also help in securing the nation’s economic resources from vandals’’, he added.

He assured of the continuous training of naval personnel, saying that such efforts in capacity building, was needed to move the Navy forward.
