Nigerian politicians and failed promises

A vow is said to be more deadly than a promise. A vow actually entails a solemn promise, pledge, or personal commitment. Th e immediate past Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, administration promised to crush Boko Haram and free the kidnapped Chibok girls, salvage the country, and tackle unemployment, among other. All these failed including the Transformation Agenda of that government. Many Nigerians believe these promises were merely to win the 2015 general elections.

But Nigerians are now politically wiser and are ready to judge performance by evaluating the level of fulfi llment of campaign promises. Again, the present All Progressives Congress, APC, administration made similar vows to revamp agriculture in order to diversify the economy from over-dependence on oil. Furthermore, President Muhammadu Buhari vowed to adopt team work approach for all these to come to reality. With the president’s declaration in his inaugural speech that “I belong to nobody, I belong to everybody” it is envisaged that the crying days are over for Nigerians who are always awaiting fulfi llment of campaign vows by those in power.
