Nigerian women have largest voting population – Atiku 

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has rated Nigerian women high as having largest voting population in Nigeria as well as most loyal party members. 

Atiku who appealed for the total support also promised to promote advancement of women when he becomes president.

The candidate made the assertion on Wednesday at the inauguration of the Women Campaign Council of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in Abuja.

Atiku said the PDP as a party acknowledged the voting strength of women and has accorded women place of honour in party affairs.

The former vice president relayed how the PDP administration since inception of the Obasanjo/ Atiku government have had impressive number of women in public offices.

If elected as president in 2023, Atiku promised that Nigerian government under him will do more than implement the Beijing Declaration on Women empowerment.

Atiku who stated this Wednesday during the inauguration of the PDPWomen Campaign Council assured of his total support.

He said “Women are the most loyal party members that was why in PDP we went to create length to make sure that we encourage women and we support women to participate actively in our democratic process and nation building. 

PDP Presidential candidate continued, “when I was vice-president I travelled to a country in Europe called Sweden. The head of governments was headed by a woman Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs was a woman, when I look at my delegation it was all men and I was embarrassed.  

“I then committed myself to making sure that as long as I remain in politics I will promote  the advancement of women. Therefore, we had no hesitations whatsoever in between 1999 and 2015 to make sure at the very minimal we complied with the Beijin Declaration. 

“Our main objective of setting up the Women Campaign Council is to make sure of your active participation to be able to identify the talents that are available amongst you, so that we can hunt those talents to help us build this country.

“There are more attributes that women have that men dont have is that women are less corrupt. I am challenging the PDP women to provide that leadership by giving in your 100% support to the party”.

On her part, the National Woman Leader of PDP, Prof. Stella Effah- Attoe appreciated the PDP Presidential Campaign Council for deeming it fit to constitute the women campaign council which is going to be a formidable force in the campaign for the success of the party.

If Atiku is voted in 2023, she said it will be a first time that Nigeria get a visionary leader .

She assured the leadership of the party of resolve by women to comb every nook and cranny of the country in search of votes for Atiku and PDP.

Wife of the presidential candidate, Hajiya Titi Atiku Abubakar in her remark said it was time Nigerian women stood up to PDP, adding that the party that had promised implementation of the 35 percent affirmative action.
