Nigerian youths not lazy, ADP tells Buhari

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has refuted comments made by President Muhammadu Buhari at the CHOGM in London where he described Nigerian youths as lazy and dependent on free things. The ADP said it was shocked that a president of a country swore an oath to make lives better for citizens could make such derogatory remarks about his fellow citizens. Publicity Secretary, Prince Adelaja Adeoye, who said this while commissioning the party’s secretariat in Alimosho yesterday, regretted that Mr. President has failed to note that a country is assessed not by its old men but by its youths. He said instead appealing to foreign investors to take advantage of the dynamism of our youths, he chose to take unnecessary swipe at our young and vibrant population.
According to the party, Nigerian youths are vibrant and possess enough physical and mental strength to contribute to nation building and therefore deserve to talk down upon as done by the president. “I have never seen any group of people anywhere in the world more determined to make it against all odds than our youths,” Adelaja said. The ADP said though Buhari’s comment was not surprising, but regretted that for a man that has supervised the loss of over 10 million jobs since 2015, the comments are even more insulting.
The party says that it is proud of the exploits of the Nigerian youths in business, showbiz, entertainment, sports, education, music and every other sector where they have held their own. The party says that this is why their focus is on the Nigerian youths who are the actual builders of any society. The party urges the youths in Nigeria to continue to shine in every field of their endeavour even as they register to get their PVCs to be able to vote in youth friendly leaders in the coming elections.
