Nigeria’s economy cannot grow without synergy among stakeholders – ES Shippers council

The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) Hassan Bello, Thursday said that the Nigerian economy cannot attain equilibrium unless there is synergy among major stakeholders.

He started this while addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Abuja Shippers’ Association in Abuja.

Bello charged the association to work as a team and ensure that only genuine shippers were members of the organisation, adding that the more they were organised the more they stand a better chance to negotiate with the federal government on issues affecting members and the general body.

According to him, the cost of freight was very high now which calls for synergy and negation with the relevant authorities for a better operating environment.

“The organised you are, the more you can negotiate with the government on such issues and challenges affecting your business. Be very organised and do not allow outsiders who has no business with shipping to infiltrate your association.

“We are under obligation to organise shippers and work with them, we’ve increased efficiency in the system and we won’t relent,” he stated.

During the meeting members had complained of their cargo being seized at either the airports or at the port.

It was announced that an election will soon be held to get new executive members to pilot the affairs, even as most members lamented the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic which has taken a toll on the activities of the association.
