Nigeria’s hope lies with youthNPM chair

Nigeria Progressive Movement (NPM) has stated that democracy in Nigeria would only be adequately sustained and made beneficial to the people when the takes over the mantle of leadership in 2019. The party’s national chairman, Mustapha Bala Getso, who lauded the nation’s 19 years of uninterrupted democratic dispensation, said Nigerians were yet to fully benefit from democracy adding that real benefit would be realised when the NPM assumed power. He lamented the neglect of the youths by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government stressing that the neglect is such youths are even described as lazy. Mustapha, who was formally elected through voice vote by delegates from the 36 states of the federation at the party’s maiden national delegate convention over the weekend, said only the NPM has the capacity and political will to spread the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians.
He said based on its motto ‘success is from God’ the party relies fully have support noting it would deployed the youth who constitute the majority of its members across the federation in 2019. “We have the resources, the numerical strength and the strength to accomplish what our elders cannot. They should guide us not continue to dominate the scene”, he said regretting that some current ministers had been ministers since he was in the primary school. Therefore, Mustapha charged youths to endeavour to register and collect their permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) stressing it is the only means of effecting the real change of guards in 2019 general elections.
According to him, unless the youth take advantage of the NPM which focuses more on youths, the country would neither sustain democracy nor benefits fully the dividends of democracy. Mustapha Bala Getso urged delegates to returned to their respective states and mobilize the electorate to identify with the NPM and gear up for the forthcoming general elections. Two gubernatorial candidates from Imo and Kwara States respectively also addressed the convention and promised to emerge the governors of their states come 2019.
