NILDS mulls drastic reorganisation

Strong indications emerged Wednesday on imminent drastic re organisation of  the entire nine departments at the National Institute for Legislative and  Democratic Studies ( NILDS).

A 7- man committee for review of scheme of service and administrative manual of the institute has accordingly been inaugurated by the director general of the institute, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman.

The committee which has Dr Hakeem Baba Ahmed as chairman is to among others, produce draft revised scheme of service and administrative manual for the institute ,  establish standards for recruitments of staff and advancement within the career structure on the basis of qualification , merit , knowledge on the job and ability as reflected in work performance.

In his remarks at the inauguration of the committee, Professor Sulaiman said the scheme of service review is aimed at making the institute’s operations and service delivery to be in line with international best practices and at par with other sister institutions in Nigeria .

He added that the exercise was necessary as a way of positively repositioning the institute for better service delivery in the area of research and capacity building for legislators/ parliamentary workers in and outside Nigeria.

He stated that the Institute which  was established by an Act of Parliament in 2011 with the mandate to build capacity and provide support services to the legislature and other democratic institutions in Nigeria requires to be well positioned in carrying out the mandate.

In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the committee, Hakeem Baba Ahmed said the assignment given will be thoroughly and diligently executed .

Other members of the committee expected to submit its report in two weeks time are the secretary, National Assembly Service Commission, Mr Olu Ajakaiye , Dean of Faculty of Social Science , University of Abuja , Professor Yusufu Ali Zoaka and  the Director of Administration , National Planning Commission, Mr Christian Eze Ezeilo.
