Varsity to honour CJN, Okoya for nation building

Nile University of Nigeria is awarding an Honourary Degree to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammad, and Chairman Eleganza Group,  Alhaji (Dr.) Rasaq Akanni Okoya, for their contribution to the country as a nation and also in the business sector at it 7th Convocation.

According to the Vice-Chancellor of the school, Prof. Osman Nuri Aras said the two persons were considered fit for the honour and also a collective decision adding that the School board and also the senate are aware.

He said the ceremony scheduled to hold today (Saturday) is a particularly special one since 2019 marks the 10th Anniversary of the school as it will be a dual celebration of both the accomplishments of our students and our University’s success story.

He said the theme of the program “ICT as a catalyst of Nigeria Economic development” as convocation lecture will be delivered by the Minister of Communication, Isah Ali Pantami.

He said the Convocation Lecture Chairman is Mallam AdamuAdamu,Minister of Education

adding that the school is expected to graduate over 3917 undergraduates and post students.

He explained that Nile University of Nigeria was established in 2009 to provide high quality tertiary education for the country’s ever-increasing number of secondary school leavers. 

“At the time of establishment, the University had 3 Faculties, 7 Departments,and 93 students. 

“As the University grew and thrived over the following years, the need to provide its high quality instruction at a higher level became increasingly apparent. 

“Thus, in 2014, Nile University established its School of Postgraduate Studies. Today, Nile University of Nigeria has over 3000 Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, 25 Undergraduate programs across 6 Faculties, and 36 Postgraduate programs across 5 Faculties.

“Our University’s success, however, would not have been possible without the support of all Nigerians, especially the parents who trusted in our ability to deliver on the promise of equipping their children with the skills necessary to succeed in today’s globalized world. 

“True to our word,we will be sending yet another batch of fine young men and women into the society, ready to make a positive, lasting impact,” he said.
