NIPOST to launch 3 new business entities December

The Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) will by December, 2020, commence three new business ventures as part of its repositioning plans.
According to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami two out of these companies have been registered.
The minister stated this during the commemoration of 2020 World Post Day held at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja Friday.

According to the minister, the “NIPOST Property Development Company, NIPOST Transport and Logistics Company and NIPOST Microfinance Bank.. have reached an advanced stage of this unbundling. For NIPOST to be digital, we are going to digitise operations of the agency as part of stages of NIPOST transformation.”

Speaking on the stamp duty wars between NIPOST and the Federal Inland Revenue  Service (FIRS), the minister said he is already making efforts at fighting for the “oppressed – NIPOST ” to get justice.
“We will fight for you without war. The legal war will not come to an end until justice is done,” he said.

He therefore calls for the support of the National Assembly in passing the required bill for the growth of the postal industry.
The Postmaster General of the Federation, DR. Ismail Adebayo Adewusi, earlier in his address said though the postal industry is greatly challenged, NIPOST is building on new opportunities for more efficiency.
This year’s World Post Day celebration marks the 146th anniversary of the creation of the Universal Postal Union, a specialized agency of the United Nations founded on October 9, 1874.

World Post Day is a day set aside to celebrate the establishment of this important union. The day also represents an excellent opportunity for postal authorities in all countries of the world to educate government officials and the public of the important and invaluable contributions which Postal services make in the socio-economic development of nations.
“As a fundamental means of communication that is easily accessible to the people, there is no doubt that the Post occupies a very unique position in every country. To underscore that the Post continues to serve as an essential instrument of economic and social development in Nigeria, the Federal Government has embarked on a comprehensive reform of the Postal Sector to make it responsive to customers’ demands through provision of high quality and affordable universal postal service to the citizenry.”
