NITDA commissions ICT Hub in Gombe

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has commissioned the North-east zone Information Communications Technology Innovation Hub in order to promote digital innovation and job creation in Nigeria

The director-general of the Agency, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi stated this in Gombe while speaking during the commissioning of the Centre on Monday.

Abdullahi said critical drivers of the digital economy and engine room of economic growth are the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) that are avail and empowered with ICT tools.

“This is a strategic move to support His Excellency President Muhammad Buhari’s commitment to addressing unemployment by making ICT tools available for the youths to significantly encourage and promote digital innovation and job creation in Nigeria.

“The present administration seeking to minimize its dependence on oil, diversify the economy to evolve entirely new industries and enable the existing ones. We strongly believe that the main driver of these industries is ICT,” he said.

Also speaking, the Minister of Communication Dr Isah Ali Pantami said the government must find a lasting solution to ensure that youths who are left behind without jobs are engaged in ICT training in order to be meaningful to society.

He advised Youths not to relent on white-collar jobs alone but should equally engage them through training to acquire ICT knowledge for the better.

 In his remark, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya promised to do everything possible to ensure the centre is protected for the benefit of the youths.
