NITT acquires 84 hectre of land for Jathropa plantation as alternative source of fuel

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria has acquired an 84 hectre of land for  Jathropa plantation as an alternative sources fuel that will augment training on transport in the institute.

The director-general of the institute, Dr Bayero Farah, stated this while addressing journalists on his one year achievement as the Director General of the institute on Monday.

He said that the land was allocated by Kaduna state Government for the said purpose.

He said, “Similarly the institute has acquired another 4 hectre of land from Sabon Gari Local Government of the state for the construction of additional workshop to be used as Driver Development Training Centre.

“We are also intensifying efforts to secure more land from the Federal Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development that will be utilized for other important projects in the institute are ongoing.

“We are currently in the process of facilitating the accreditation of some courses by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) which provide the Institute the opportunity to offer National Diplomas in crane operations, welding and Fabrication, Mechtronics and others, this feat  will no doubt open windows of opportunities for teeming youth in the Country as well as improves internally Generated Revenue of the Institute.

“In the area of Human Capacity Development, my administration has made it a priority to vigorously and continuously train Staff in their respective areas of specialisation within and outside the Country to equip them with all the necessary skills and expertise that will give them competitive advantage in the Industry, we are sponsoring 16 Staff abroad for MSc and PhD in various fields of Transport, Engineering and other critical areas of need.” Dr Farah said

The DG further stated that the institute has reached agreement with Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company with view to identifying and fixing all problems associated with 33 KV Power supply in order to address the problem of epileptic power supply which the Institute has been experiencing for long.

He further said “Let me amplify the ongoing efforts of my administration towards the amendments of the Institute’s enabling Act as well as condition of service. The documents are currently undergoing the process of consideration and approval by the appropriate Authorities with amendment the Institute will be positioned to serve the Industry better.”
